Rivers and David’s wedding day was unlike most weddings we have the privilege of filming—and that is exactly what made it so special. A peaceful morning, a rain-filled ceremony at Old Waverly, and a celebration finished all finished before lunch.
The morning began quietly as Rivers got ready for the day. There was a threat of rain hanging over everything, with a few sprinkles coming through early on, but by the time the first looks and portraits began, the skies had cleared into a beautiful morning. With a smaller bridal party and the peaceful setting of Old Waverly surrounding them, the whole morning felt intimate and unhurried. Then, just before the ceremony, everything changed.
The ceremony was set against Old Waverly’s beautiful fountain, adorned with incredible floral arrangements. As David prepared to walk out, the wind began to shift, and a storm moved in. Rivers started down the long staircase toward her groom as the first drops began to fall. By the time their pastor began the homily, the rain had become a downpour.
And yet, the wedding continued.
At first, hardly anyone moved. Eventually, a few guests grabbed umbrellas and others found shelter inside, but most of the wedding party and guests remained. They listened as their pastor encouraged the couple, witnessed their vows, and watched them exchange rings—all while rain poured around them. It was surreal.
What could have been a distraction became one of the most unforgettable parts of their wedding day. There was something incredibly beautiful about hearing a couple promise their lives to one another while the rain fell around them. It was romantic, quiet, intimate, and completely focused on the covenant being made.
By the time Rivers and David shared their first kiss and made their way back up the stairs, the downpour had softened to a trickle. Everyone gathered inside the clubhouse, soaked and smiling, where brunch, drinks, first dances, and cake welcomed them into the next part of the celebration.
Finally, the newlyweds exited the clubhouse through a cloud of bubbles and climbed into their getaway cart. And just like that, before most people had finished lunch, Rivers and David were officially on their way to begin their marriage and their honeymoon. It was perfect.
We loved filming a wedding that felt so peaceful, intentional, and focused on what matters most. And somehow, the rain that threatened to interrupt their ceremony became the very thing that made it impossible to forget. Rivers and David Caperton were married at Old Waverly in West Point, Mississippi.
